The Story of Compression
Compression is more than tight fitting clothing, actually a lot more. Compression has been used in the medical field for over 60 years for the treatment of lower leg conditions caused by circulatory and/or lymphatic systems malfunction. When compression is done right you will experience many advantages over your competition.
Blood Flow
You will accelerate blood flow to and from your muscles, yes that is a very good thing. Blood of course carries the oxygen to and de-oxygenated blood away from your muscles. Proper compression achieves this feat by allowing your arterial walls to relax and allow for an increase volume flow. Being graduated also means the veins have more compression where needed to reduce their diameter and force the "old" blood back the heart for a recharge. Improved circulation also helps to eliminate lactic acid build up and other metabolic wastes during an intense workout.
DVT Protection
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a condition that mainly affects the lower body
and is typically associated with long periods of inactivity, like traveling home after an event. Compression can enhance blood flow in these areas through
enhanced venous return, reducing the risk of DVT and swelling in ankles
and limbs.
Reduce Damage of Muscle Vibration
Compression protects you from soft tissue damage by wrapping and supporting your key muscle groups to reduce movement and focus direction. By reducing this muscle damage, 2XU Compression can minimize
swelling post exercise and can significantly reduce the severity and
duration of exercise induced muscle injury and soreness such as
Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).
Temperature Management
Compression garments wick moisture away from the skin to keep you dry and comfortable. This process allows the body to regulate its temperature naturally. The also wrap the muscles to keep them warm thus making them more resistant to pulling.
Proprioception (say what?)
Proprioception
is the sense of the orientation of one's limbs in space. In other words, compression applies pressure to the skin surface to increase the body’s awareness for improved posture, agility and stability. An increase in proprioception can help improve technique as an improved
sense of your body’s positioning can increase balance, control and
muscle coordination.
Recovery!
One of the biggest benefits of compression is ability to speed the body's ability to recover. Using the increased blood flow capabilities address above Compression work to improve the recovery cycle by helping the
pumping action of the cardiovascular system while at rest. The recovery process is jump started by removing blood lactate from
exercising muscles leading reduced swelling, faster muscle repair and
reduction in muscle soreness.
